Windows 7 OEM Leaked Product Key is Blackisted

There was leak of a special product key issued to an OEM partner of ours. The key is for use with Windows 7 Ultimate RTM product that is meant to be pre-installed by the OEM on new PCs to be shipped later this year. As such, the use of this key requires having a PC from the manufacturer it was issued to.

According to Director of Genuine Windows at Microsoft: "we've worked with that manufacturer so that customers who purchase genuine copies of Windows 7 from this manufacturer will experience no issues validating their copy of Windows 7. At the same time we will seek to alert customers who are using the leaked key that they are running a non-genuine copy of Windows. It's important to note that no PCs will be sold that will use this key."

Microsoft have worked with Lenovo to blacklist the master key before Windows 7 starts Shipping.Well i think the Pirates would wait till Shipping starts....

Deep Zoom Composer, a tool to allow the preparation of images for use with the Deep Zoom feature in Silverlight 3. The new Deep Zoom technology in Silverlight allows users to see images on the Web like they never have before. The smooth in-place zooming and panning that Deep Zoom allows is a true advancement and raises the bar on what image viewing should be. High resolution images need to be prepared for use with Deep Zoom and this tool allows the user to create Deep Zoom composition files that control the zooming experience and then export all the necessary files for deployment with Silverlight 3.

Australia Recognises Its First Visually Impaired MVP

image

MVP Kenny Johar was recently awarded the Microsoft MVP Award, for his contributions towards Internet Explorer. He has carved out a successful IT career by helping to make technology, more accessible to Australia's visually impaired. News of his Award, was also picked up by The Australian newspaper and you can read an excerpt of the interview below.

Kenny was diagnosed with problems to his eyesight during the final years of high school, and had intended to follow in his father's footsteps and become a doctor. The news that he had retinitis pigmentosa, a degenerative sight condition, came as a crushing blow.

"It's like a domino effect," he said. "When I started there were lots of obstacles for people with vision impairment to get into the IT industry, and I take a huge sense of achievement from the fact I am opening a floodgate for others to follow".

"I had strong aspirations to be a neurologist," he recalled. "I was very interested in the human brain, and then I learned that no matter how hard I worked I was never going to be able to get there, so I had to change the direction of my career".

Everything changed when he got a laptop computer with a screen reader that allowed the information in programs and on web pages to be read aloud to him.

"Suddenly the world opened up again for me," he said. "To have something come into my life and give me such a strong ray of hope for the future made me realise how powerful a tool technology was".

Kenny is now helping to roll out a new software package that will assist vision-impaired people to go online. He remains optimistic that the IT industry will offer more opportunities to blind people. "It's not about a disability, it's about your attitude, and I think for people who come after me it's not going to be a big deal; it won't be a taboo anymore".

You can read Kenny’s full interview with The Australian here.

Kurkure contains Plastic...!! Really??

Is it really the one of fav snack KURKURE contains plastic??I have received mails / messages in past claiming Kurkure being an unhealthy snack or presence of plastic in Kurkure. When we burn Kurkure Plastic melts? Is this true?Thats what PepsiCo Replies:

At the outset, we wish to assure you that there is no merit in any of the contentions you have seen in the chain mail.Kurkure is not only the safest product but is also a healthier snack. We would also like to inform you that Kurkure is made with Rice bran oil. Rice Bran Oil (RBO) is one of the healthier oils because it is naturally high in the good fats (MUFA and PUFA) and low in saturated fats. By cooking Frito Lay range of products in RICE BRAN oil, the saturated fat has been reduced by 40%. Saturates are the ones to watch out for, because too much saturated fat can contribute to increased blood cholesterol levels. The contents of the mail is, therefore, totally baseless.Do write to us if you wish to seek any further clarification in this regard. It would be our privilege to be of assistance to you.

Intel: it's well past time for IT to upgrade hardware

At the Intel Technology Summit in San Francisco, Intel gave analysts and press a look at where the company is, and where we all may be headed. VP Sean Maloney talked about the stimulus, Windows 7, and his hope that IT departments worldwide will give in to the pent-up demand for hardware upgrades.

Intel VP Sean Maloney kicked off the Intel Technology Summit today with a broad-ranging discussion of a number of themes that Intel has been pounding recently, including the state of the global computing market and the chipmaker's recommendations for and relationship to various government stimulus projects. Maloney also spoke to a few other hot topics in the ensuing Q&A, including netbook cannibalization of existing laptop sales, the impact of Windows 7 on the upgrade cycle, and rumors of the end of Moore's Law.

Upgrading From Windows 7 RC To Final

The steps that were outlined for upgrading the Windows 7 beta release to release candidate were the following:

  • Download the ISO as you did previously and burn the ISO to a DVD.
  • Copy the whole image to a storage location you wish to run the upgrade from .
  • Browse to the sources directory.
  • Open the file cversion.ini in a text editor like Notepad.
  • Modify the MinClient build number to a value lower than the down-level build. For example, change 7100 to 7000.
  • Save the file in place with the same name.
  • Run setup like you would normally from this modified copy of the image and the version check will be bypassed.

The rtm build of Windows 7 is distributed with the build number 7600. An upgrade from release candidate to rtm build would therefor require the modification of the MinClient build number from 7600 to 7100 or lower.

Windows 7 testers to get free copy of Win 7 Ultimate

Microsoft announced today that Windows 7 technical testers will be receiving a free copy of Windows 7 Ultimate.

In recent weeks Microsoft has faced angry reactions from bloggers and beta testers when they originally announced the testers "thanks" was the discounted pre-order offer. Blogger Paul Thurrot claimed: "the painful thing here, for beta testers, is that they've been screwed" which demonstrated the reaction to the previous announcements.

In a blog posting at Microsoft's Windows Team Blog, Brandon LeBlanc confirmed: "to show our appreciation, members of the invitation-only Windows 7 Technical Beta Program will be eligible for a free, final copy of Windows 7 Ultimate."

Process Explorer - Alternative to Windows Task Manager

Ever wondered which program has a particular file or directory open? Now you can find out. Process Explorer shows you information about which handles and DLLs processes have opened or loaded.

The Process Explorer display consists of two sub-windows. The top window always shows a list of the currently active processes, including the names of their owning accounts, whereas the information displayed in the bottom window depends on the mode that Process Explorer is in: if it is in handle mode you'll see the handles that the process selected in the top window has opened; if Process Explorer is in DLL mode you'll see the DLLs and memory-mapped files that the process has loaded. Process Explorer also has a powerful search capability that will quickly show you which processes have particular handles opened or DLLs loaded.

The unique capabilities of Process Explorer make it useful for tracking down DLL-version problems or handle leaks, and provide insight into the way Windows and applications work.

Windows 7 Ultimate Cracked

Windows 7 has yet to even be released officially to the general public, and already the dodgy folk on the Internet have fully cracked and activated the Ultimate version, with help from a leaked Lenovo OEM DVD .ISO file.

The news comes from website
My Digital Life who state that you can already pass Windows Genuine Advantage validation offline, OEM style.

The leaked .ISO was originally posted on a Chinese forum, which was then downloaded in order for people to get hold of the boot.wim, and in turn retrieving the OEM-SLP key, plus the OEM activation certificate. Microsoft uses the same digitally signed OEM certificate, which has an .xrm-ms extension, as that in Windows Vista
. Another point to note is that the key is a master one, which can be used to activate other OEM branded installations, like ones from Dell, HP or indeed Lenovo..

Well i think MS must hv this in concern.Lets see what they use as a counterpart measure

What does Microsoft-Yahoo deal includes.

Real Choice. Better Value. More Innovation.

The key terms of the agreement are as follows:
  • The term of the agreement is 10 years;

  • Microsoft will acquire an exclusive 10 year license to Yahoo!'s core search technologies, and Microsoft will have the ability to integrate Yahoo! search technologies into its existing web search platforms;

  • Microsoft's Bing will be the exclusive algorithmic search and paid search platform for Yahoo! sites. Yahoo! will continue to use its technology and data in other areas of its business such as enhancing display advertising technology.

  • Yahoo! will become the exclusive worldwide relationship sales force for both companies' premium search advertisers. Self-serve advertising for both companies will be fulfilled by Microsoft's AdCenter platform, and prices for all search ads will continue to be set by AdCenter's automated auction process.

  • Each company will maintain its own separate display advertising business and sales force.

  • Yahoo! will innovate and "own" the user experience on Yahoo! properties, including the user experience for search, even though it will be powered by Microsoft technology.

  • Microsoft will compensate Yahoo! through a revenue sharing agreement on traffic generated on Yahoo!'s network of both owned and operated (O&O) and affiliate sites.

    • Microsoft will pay traffic acquisition costs (TAC) to Yahoo! at an initial rate of 88% of search revenue generated on Yahoo!'s O&O sites during the first 5 years of the agreement.

    • Yahoo! will continue to syndicate its existing search affiliate partnerships.

  • Microsoft will guarantee Yahoo!'s O&O revenue per search (RPS) in each country for the first 18 months following initial implementation in that country.

  • At full implementation (expected to occur within 24 months following regulatory approval), Yahoo! estimates, based on current levels of revenue and current operating expenses, that this agreement will provide a benefit to annual GAAP operating income of approximately $500 million and capital expenditure savings of approximately $200 million. Yahoo! also estimates that this agreement will provide a benefit to annual operating cash flow of approximately $275 million.

  • The agreement protects consumer privacy by limiting the data shared between the companies to the minimum necessary to operate and improve the combined search platform, and restricts the use of search data shared between the companies. The agreement maintains the industry-leading privacy practices that each company follows today.

The agreement does not cover each company's web properties and products, email, instant messaging, display advertising, or any other aspect of the companies' businesses. In those areas, the companies will continue to compete vigorously.

Well its a sure treat 4 end users like..and Google ...prepare urself 4 the race..

Firefox 4.0 redesign mockups released

Earlier last week, Mozilla updated the Firefox 3.7 wiki to show potential design changes for Firefox 3.7, and today, updated their wiki to show new mock ups for Firefox 4.0 Windows designs.

The designs are changed to fit better into Windows 7 - as they want to "embrace glass" which is a major goal of Mozilla for the next Firefox release, as well as making them feel more a part of the OS. The designs also work on Windows Vista. A separate design would be in place for lower versions of Windows.

The images below show the ideas that the Mozilla team has, for some potential tab layouts/UI redesigns. Remember that these mock ups are different than the 3.7 ones posted last week. Compare them on the Mozilla Wiki.

Online game to help improve Bing search results

Microsoft Research have released an online game to help fine-tune search results for Bing.

The game is named "Page Hunt" and the basic idea is to show the player a random web page, and get the player to come up with a query that would bring up this page in the top few results on a search engine. The idea is that human computation games that elicit data from players can be used to improve search.

Page Hunt was developed by Raman Chandrasekar and Chris Quirk of Microsoft Research in partnership with The Chinese University of Hong Kong and Georgia Institute of Technology
. According to Microsoft "before we released the game to the web, we conducted a pilot study within our company. During this experiment, 341 people played Page Hunt over a period of ten days, generating over 14,400 labels on 744 web pages in the system. On average every player contributed 42 labels, and every page has about 19 labels."

Page Hunt was unveiled at this week's SIGIR 2009 conference in Boston. If you're interested in helping improve Bing search results then checkout Page Hunt which is hosted at Microsoft's Live Labs site. Microsoft Live Labs also includes Seadragon and Photosynth

Windows 7 Final System Requirements

One of my friend recently told me that Dell Marketers asked his friend that he could not install Windows 7 because he does not have any graphics card associated.

I disapproved and told him i am using it since Windows 7 PreBeta and that too on my desktop w/o graphics card.
To clear the confusion of many people i am posting Final Sys requirements for Windows 7 :

If you want to run Windows 7 on your PC, here's what it takes:

  • 1 gigahertz (GHz) or faster 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) processor

  • 1 gigabyte (GB) RAM (32-bit) or 2 GB RAM (64-bit)

  • 16 GB available hard disk space (32-bit) or 20 GB (64-bit)

  • DirectX 9 graphics device with WDDM 1.0 or higher driver

Additional requirements to use certain features:

  • Internet access (fees may apply)

  • Depending on resolution, video playback may require additional memory and advanced graphics hardware

  • For some Windows Media Center functionality a TV tuner and additional hardware may be required

  • Windows Touch and Tablet PCs require specific hardware

  • HomeGroup requires a network and PCs running Windows 7

  • DVD/CD authoring requires a compatible optical drive

  • BitLocker requires Trusted Platform Module (TPM) 1.2

  • BitLocker To Go requires a USB flash drive

  • Windows XP Mode requires an additional 1 GB of RAM, an additional 15 GB of available hard disk space, and a processor capable of hardware virtualization with Intel VT or AMD-V turned on

  • Music and sound require audio output

Product functionality and graphics may vary based on your system configuration. Some features may require advanced or additional hardware.

Official Windows 7 graphics, chipset and AHCI/SATA drivers from Intel

Ever since Windows 7 became a talking point for enthusiasts, AMD has been on hand with driver support for graphics adapters and chipsets alike. Rival chip titan Intel, meanwhile, has been content to sit the sidelines and offer nary a peep about their support plans. However, it seems the recent Windows 7 Release Candidate (or the RTM, judging by the driver dates) has inspired a change of heart in ol’ blue. We’ve done some digging and discovered that Intel has recently booted a whole suite of Windows 7 GMA, AHCI/SATA and chipset drivers out the door for our consumption!

Chipset

Chipset Device Software 9.1.1.1015

The Intel® Chipset Device Software installs the Windows* INF files. The INF files inform the operating system how to properly configure the chipset for specific functionality, such as USB and core PCI.

AHCI/SATA

Matrix Storage Manager 8.9.0.1023

This driver provides support for high-capacity & fault-tolerant Serial ATA (SATA) RAID 5 arrays and high-performance & fault-tolerant SATA RAID 10 arrays on select Intel® 4 Series, 3 Series, 965, 975X, 955X and 945 chipset-based platforms. It provides support for high-performance SATA RAID 0 arrays & redundant SATA RAID 1 arrays on select Intel® 4 Series, 3 Series, 965, 975X, 955X, 945, 925, 915 chipset-based platforms. It also provides AHCI support on select Intel® 4 Series, 3 Series, 965, 975X, 955X, 945, 925 and 915 chipset-based platforms, as well as on Mobile Intel® 915/910 chipset-based platforms.

Prepped for the install process

You might note that these AHCI/SATA drivers come bundled in an executable which puts the kibosh on using them during the Windows 7 install. This isn’t a deal-breaker as Microsoft provides generic AHCI/SATA drivers for just such an occasion, but we busted ‘em loose so you can use Intel’s goods during the install routine. Grab the drivers from this link: Right here!

GMA Graphics

Integrated Intel GMA Drivers

These are going to be hit and miss for users with older integrated adapters, as many of them were retired long ago. Owners of a mobile or desktop product featuring the 910, 915, 945, 946, 963, Q965, G965, 965 Express, G/Q4x or G/Q3x chipsets are in luck, however, as an official Windows 7 driver is available for your adapter.

What’s the catch?

These drivers are provided AS IS warns Intel in scary bold letters. Keep in mind that beta drivers can trigger unwanted side effects like blue screens, boot failures, choppy performance and hairy palms. That said, you can bet your asses we’ll be taking our chances right along with you.

Bing users click on more ads than Google, Yahoo users

Users on Microsoft's search engine, Bing, click on more ads than people who use Google or Yahoo - 55 percent more, according to an industry study.

Bing's click-through rate in June was 1.5 percent, meaning 1.50 percent of searchers clicked on a paid link, according to search-advertiser Chitika. Meanwhile, Yahoo's CTR was 1.24 percent and Google's was 0.97 percent.

So what does that mean? Companies that advertise on Bing might have a better chance of having someone click on their ads. But chance is different than absolute numbers; Google's reach is light-years wider - in this survey, Google had 83 percent of ad impressions.

According to TechCrunch survey numbers are as follows:

ImpressionsClicksCTR (%)%
Google26,929,367260,5180.9755.11
